Summary
A Salt Lake City clinic runs AI under HIPAA, physician licensing through the Division of Professional Licensing, and Utah's generative AI disclosure law for licensed occupations. Utah allows one-party consent to record, and its consumer privacy act leaves HIPAA data to HIPAA. wai drafts replies and notes, and a person at the clinic approves every message and the clinician signs every note.
A skier who books a knee consult from the canyon at 9pm has her booking paid and her intake done before she arrives, and the physician leaves with every note signed. Utah has written its own rules for AI in licensed professions, and they shape how that evening runs.

The rules a clinic in Salt Lake City works under
Physicians and surgeons are licensed by the Division of Professional Licensing, part of the Utah Department of Commerce, and the division's physician licensing covers the Interstate Medical Licensure Compact.8
Utah Code 13-77-103, in force since 7 May 2025, requires anyone providing services in a regulated occupation to disclose prominently when a person is interacting with generative AI in a high-risk interaction.4 The disclosure is given verbally at the start of a spoken interaction and in writing before a written one.4 SB 226 defines a high-risk interaction to include collecting health data and giving medical advice, and defines generative AI as a system producing outputs with limited or no human oversight.5 The Division of Consumer Protection enforces it, with administrative fines of up to $2,500 per violation.5 In wai every message is drafted for a person at the clinic to approve, and every note is signed by the clinician.
The Utah Consumer Privacy Act reaches controllers with annual revenue of $25 million or more that meet its data thresholds.6 It does not apply to HIPAA covered entities, business associates or protected health information.6
Utah Code 77-23a-4 allows a person who is a party to a conversation, or who has one party's prior consent, to record it.7 wai still takes recording consent at booking, so every patient knows before the visit.11
The Clinical Health Information Exchange, CHIE, describes itself as the only health information exchange in Utah, connecting hospitals, health plans, clinics and specialists.9 wai is built to connect to the Clinical Health Information Exchange. We set up your clinic's connection with you.

What a demo shows in Salt Lake City
A snowboarder coming down from Little Cottonwood Canyon opens the clinic's website at 9pm and books a knee assessment in three taps, offered the earliest open time first from the physician's busy times in Google Calendar, Outlook or Apple Calendar.10 The fee goes straight to the clinic's own Stripe account by card or Apple Pay, the clinic stays merchant of record, and the intake questionnaire reaches her phone with the receipt.10
Next morning a Spanish WhatsApp from a father in West Valley City asks to move his son's sports physical. wai drafts the reply in Spanish with two open times, and the front desk approves it in the same thread.
The knee examination is written up as a draft while it happens, and the physician edits and signs it once she leaves the room. See how approval works in human approval of patient messages.
For health systems, insurers and state agencies in Utah
Health systems, health plans and public agencies along the Wasatch Front can have wai build one pathway of their own, such as reviewed replies to questions about results. Outcome measures, data and model rights are written into the contract before the build, as set out on the organisations page.
Where to start
First, list every place a patient could meet generative AI, by chat, voice or text, and decide where the clinic's written disclosure line appears before each one.4 Second, confirm which of the clinic's data is protected health information, so the Utah Consumer Privacy Act question is settled.6
Third, ask how the clinic will join the CHIE.9 Then bring a week of evening enquiries to a fifteen-minute demo, and see prices on the pricing page.
