What is practice management software?

Practice management software is the system a clinic uses to run its operations, typically appointments, patient registration, billing, payments and reporting. Many now include clinical notes as well, so the record and the business run in one place.

Also called PMS, clinic management software or practice management system.

Why Practice management software matters to a clinic

It is the system every member of staff touches every day, so its gaps become the clinic's workarounds. A diary in one tool, notes in another and payments in a third means staff copying between them, and copied data drifts.

The questions that matter are how much of the day it runs, how the record and the billing connect, where the data is hosted and what the clinic can show a regulator from it.

Questions

What is the difference between practice management software and an EHR?

Practice management software runs the business side, and an EHR holds the clinical record. Many clinics now choose one system for both. See EHR versus EMR.

How long does it take to move?

It depends on the size of the clinic and the data to move. wai sets up with each clinic before go-live. See pricing.
