Every three months, the facility inspects itself with DHA's checklists, signs the result and keeps it for DHA's inspectors. Done properly, it finds what an inspector would find, a quarter earlier.
What DHA's policy says
DHA's audit and inspection policy requires facilities to run a self inspection using the checklists on DHA's website, on a three-monthly basis, and to keep it for inspectors.1 The policy's risk rating weighs compliance history over the last three visits, so a facility that finds and fixes its own gaps is inspected less often.1 Renewal compliance counts too, and DHA's licensing manual lets renewal start three months before expiry.2
- Diary four dates a year. With a named lead for each.
- Use DHA's checklist for your facility type. Not a homemade version.
- Check from the record. Files, drugs, staff licences and access logs, as they are.
- Score and sign. Every item, with the date and the signature.
- Close gaps before the next quarter. Each with an owner and a date.

Questions
How often is the self inspection?

Compliance history is part of the risk rating, and a self inspection is how you keep it clean.
