Key points

Summary

A Marrakesh clinic can use AI to draft notes and patient replies under Law 09-08, once its health data processing is declared to the CNDP. wai drafts, a person at the clinic approves every message, the doctor signs every note, and records stay in Morocco.

Every evening enquiry answered by breakfast, in the language the family wrote in, and every note signed before the doctor leaves. That is how a clinic in a prefecture of 1.57 million people fills its morning list.1

The private care market in Marrakesh

The 2024 census put the Prefecture of Marrakech at 1,571,580 people in 402,389 households, including 10,876 foreign residents.1 The commune of Marrakech counted 1,002,697, and the Gueliz arrondissement 219,863, of whom 6,215 were foreign residents.1

Around the city, the Marrakech-Safi region holds 4,892,393 people, and 2,643,439 of them live in rural communes.1 National health policy for public and private care sits with the Ministry of Health and Social Protection.7

The rules a clinic in Marrakesh works under

Doctors join the Ordre National des Médecins through its regional councils. Under Article 41 of Law 08-12, the council for Marrakech-Safi processes registration requests, checks that medical practices meet the conditions for exercising the profession and hears disciplinary cases.5

Law 131-13 on the practice of medicine gives each patient the right to be told the diagnosis, the treatment options and the consequences of refusing care, recorded in a medical file of which the patient may obtain a copy.6

Law 09-08 treats health data as sensitive. Article 22 lets a practitioner bound by professional secrecy process it for prevention, diagnosis, care or the management of health services after a declaration to the CNDP, the national data protection commission.3 Transfers abroad go only to countries on the CNDP's list, or rest on the patient's explicit consent, a listed necessity such as diagnosis or treatment, or an express CNDP authorisation, and the CNDP answers a transfer request within two months.4

wai hosts each clinic's records in its own country, under that country's rules. We set this up with your clinic. wai is compliant with these rules and built for clinics in Marrakesh. Every message, draft, approval and signature is written to an event log the clinic can export.8

The languages Marrakesh patients write in

Arabic and Amazigh have been official languages since the 2011 Constitution, and the 2024 census asked which variants people use each day, from Moroccan Darija to Tachelhit, Tamazight, Tarifit and Hassania.2 Nationally 24.8% of people used Amazigh daily in 2024, 33.3% in rural areas and 19.9% in towns.2

wai works in any language and is built for Arabic-first care.910 A patient from a village in Al Haouz can answer intake questions by voice in Tachelhit, and the clinician reads the answers in English before the visit.9

What a demo shows in Marrakesh

A message arrives through the clinic's website form at 22:40, in Darija written in Latin letters, from a mother in Ménara asking whether her son can see the paediatrician before school on Thursday. wai files it in the family's thread, reads the paediatrician's busy times from Google Calendar, Outlook or Apple Calendar, and drafts a reply in Darija offering two open times. The receptionist approves it at 8:30.

A call missed during the morning rush becomes a drafted text in the caller's thread, sent once the team approves it. In the consultation wai drafts the note from a conversation that moves between Darija and French, and the paediatrician edits and signs it. The family finds the letter in their wai Profile.

For health systems, government and insurers in Marrakesh

A hospital group, an insurer or a regional health programme in Marrakech-Safi can commission a system built on wai for one defined pathway, such as follow-up for patients who live far from the city, with records hosted in Morocco and data, configuration and model rights agreed in the contract. The organisations page sets out how such a build starts.

Where to start

First, file the Article 22 declaration with the CNDP for the clinic's patient records, or confirm that the one on file covers drafting and transcription.3 Second, confirm each doctor's registration with the regional council for Marrakech-Safi.5

Third, add a line on the AI scribe to the clinic's consent wording in Arabic and French, using the consent form template. Fourth, count last month's messages and missed calls by language and hour, and bring that count to a Marrakesh demo.

Bring a week of Marrakesh enquiries, in every language they arrived in, and see the drafts your reception would approve.

Frequently asked questions

Does a Marrakesh clinic need to tell the CNDP about its patient records?

Yes. Under Article 22 of Law 09-08, health data processed for care by a practitioner bound by secrecy requires a declaration to the CNDP.3

Can patient records be stored outside Morocco?

Only in countries on the CNDP's list, or with explicit consent, a listed necessity or an express CNDP authorisation.4 wai hosts each clinic's records in Morocco.

Who registers doctors in Marrakesh?

The Ordre National des Médecins, through its regional council for Marrakech-Safi, which processes registration requests.5

Does wai work in Darija and Tachelhit?

wai works in any language and is built for Arabic-first care, and a patient can answer intake questions by voice in their own language.910

Does the AI reply to patients on its own?

No. wai drafts each reply, a person at the clinic approves and sends it, and the doctor signs every note. Human approval of patient messages sets out the sign-off.

Can a patient get a copy of their medical file?

Law 131-13 says the information given to the patient is recorded in a medical file of which the patient may obtain a copy.6 With wai, letters and results also sit in the patient's own Profile.
