What is consent management in a clinic?
Consent management is how a clinic records what each patient has agreed to, when they agreed, and on what information. It covers consent to treatment, to recording a consultation and to how their data is used, kept on the patient's record so it can be shown later.
Updated . Defined by the wai team for clinics, groups and health systems.

Also called patient consent records or informed consent tracking.
Why Consent management matters to a clinic
In England, regulation 11 requires care to be provided only with the consent of the relevant person.1 Accreditors and insurers ask the same question in their own words, and a missing consent is one of the findings that is hardest to explain after the fact.
AI scribes have added a new consent, to the consultation being recorded and transcribed. A clinic needs to show that the patient was told, when, by whom and what they agreed to.
Questions
Is a signature always needed?
Not always. Consent can be verbal for many treatments, but it should be recorded in the notes with what the patient was told. Higher risk procedures usually need written consent.
Where can I find a consent form template?
Our templates library has a consent form for every regulator we cover, each mapped to that regulator's own standards.
