How the guides map to the KOIHA framework

The hub sets out the 5 headings KOIHA works to, and the guides take them one task at a time.

The 5 headings on the KOIHA hub

  1. Opening the clinic (개설), 5 requirements on the hub. A doctor may practise only in a medical institution that has been opened under the 의료법. A 의원 opens by report to the 시장, 군수 or 구청장, and a hospital needs a permit from the 시도지사.
  2. The medical record (진료기록부), 5 rules on the hub. The 의료법 requires every doctor to record the main symptoms, diagnosis and treatment in detail and sign it, keep the record for the period the 시행규칙 sets, and let the patient see and copy it.
  3. Electronic medical records (전자의무기록), 5 rules on the hub. A record may be kept electronically with an electronic signature. The clinic must hold the facilities to keep it safe, keep a separate access log of every addition or amendment, and tell the Minister at once of a breach.
  4. KOIHA certification (의료기관 인증), 6 requirements on the hub. The Minister of Health and Welfare certifies medical institutions through KOIHA against standards on patient rights and safety, quality improvement, care processes, organisation and patient satisfaction. Hospitals apply voluntarily, 요양병원 must, and a clinic registered for foreign patients may.
  5. Consent and health information, 5 rules on the hub. Health information is 민감정보 under PIPA, processed only with separate consent or where a law allows it. Surgery, transfusion and general anaesthesia need written consent under the 의료법, and a leak is reported within 72 hours.

Questions about the KOIHA guides

Which KOIHA guide should I read first?

Start with Clinics, hospitals and KOIHA, the first guide on this page, about 8 minutes of reading, filed under Certification. The other 6 each stand on their own, so take them in the order your own preparation needs.

How do these guides relate to the KOIHA hub?

The KOIHA hub sets out the 5 headings KOIHA works to and how wai evidences each one. Each guide goes one level down, to a single task, with steps to follow, a template to copy, answers to common questions and the sources behind it.

How current are the KOIHA guides?

Every guide shows the date its facts were checked against the official sources it cites. All 7 were checked on 16 October 2026, the same date the hub shows beside its Updated line.

Are the KOIHA guides legal advice?

They are guidance, not legal advice, written from what KOIHA publishes, with a link to the source for each fact. Neither the Ministry of Health and Welfare nor KOIHA endorses wai or any software, and the certification for your organisation is decided by KOIHA, for the Ministry of Health and Welfare.

How do I request a demo for KOIHA?

Request a demo from this page and it reaches the wai team with KOIHA already named, so the call starts from KOIHA rather than a general tour. You can also write to team@wellnessa-i.com.
