AI scribe cost comparison
Four ways to handle clinical documentation, priced with published figures and your own hours. Every number on this page is either yours or published, and the arithmetic sits in plain sight.
A subscription price on its own tells you very little. What matters is the subscription plus the clinical time each option still consumes, and what each option actually covers. Dictation covers speech to text. A scribe covers the note. A platform covers the note, the letters, the coding and the admin around them. Set your numbers and hold the four totals side by side.
8 hours a week is 34.7 hours of documentation a month per clinician. At £100 an hour, typing costs £3,467 per clinician and £10,400 a month across 3 clinicians. Dictation leaves 17.3 hours of review per clinician, worth £1,733 on top of its subscription, which is how its range of £5,245 to £5,290 is built.
The scribe and platform figures are subscription prices, not total cost of documentation. What separates them is scope, and that is stated plainly above. Full wai pricing is on our pricing page. Hold the four totals together and decide for yourself.
Vendor subscriptions are shown in dollars because that is how they are published. Your own clinical time is priced in the currency you chose. No exchange rate is applied anywhere on this page.
Questions about the assumptions
Where do the software prices come from?
The dictation range of $15 to $30 a month and the scribe range of $39 to $119 a month per clinician reflect published prices, which for scribes now means Freed, since Heidi stopped showing figures in August 2026. wai Clinician is $250 per clinician monthly, published in full on our pricing page. Prices change, so check the vendor pages before you decide.
Why does dictation still carry review time?
Dictation converts speech to text, but the clinician still structures, corrects and files the note. Half the original documentation hours is a fair working assumption for that remaining work, and you can see it in the arithmetic rather than hidden behind a subscription price.
What does the currency toggle change?
The symbol only. Your hourly rate is whatever you enter, and the software prices are quoted in dollars as published. No exchange rate is applied, so the arithmetic is identical in either currency.
