Summary
Medesk prices on a different axis from everyone else here. The Free plan carries 50 appointments a month, 2 users and 1,000 patient records at no cost. The Pro plan is $16 a month per 50 appointments with unlimited users and unlimited patient records, with a 7 day trial and no card required. Read on medesk.net on 8 September 2026.
Unlimited users is the interesting part. Every other product in this comparison charges for the receptionist, the practice manager and the second clinician. Medesk charges for the appointments and lets you staff the clinic however you like, which is a genuinely different idea and a good one for a practice with a lot of part time people.
wai is priced per clinician and per location and published on one page. The comparison worth making is not which number is smaller. It is which curve matches how your clinic actually grows.
Model the curve you will be on in a year, then book fifteen minutes.

What Medesk is good at
A free tier that is actually usable. 50 appointments a month, 2 users and 1,000 patient records is a working clinic for a new practice, not a demo with the useful parts removed. A clinician starting out can run real patients through it while deciding what to buy.
Unlimited users on the paid plan. A practice with a receptionist, a practice manager and three part time clinicians pays for none of those seats. Against per seat pricing that is a structural saving rather than a discount.
And it publishes, plainly, with the trial terms stated.
The curve to model before you buy
Volume pricing rewards a clinic with many staff and few appointments, and charges a clinic with few staff and many appointments. Work out your monthly appointment count and multiply. A practice running 600 appointments a month is buying 12 blocks at $16, and that is the number to compare, not the headline.
This cuts both ways honestly. If you are a busy single handed clinician, per seat pricing is probably cheaper than volume pricing. If you are a small team seeing moderate volume with a lot of admin staff, Medesk is likely the cheapest serious option here.
wai is flat per location, so the cost does not move when a busy month arrives. Credits cover the routine actions and the allowance is published alongside the price.
Where the two models part
Every product on this page, Medesk included, is a place for your team to do the work. The price differs, the axis differs, and the work is the same work done by the same people.
wai changes who does it. The enquiry is answered, the appointment is booked, the note is composed from the encounter and the letter is drafted for approval, with phone, email and WhatsApp landing on one patient record. That is why the price sits above the software market rather than inside it.
So the honest framing is that Medesk and wai are not really competing for the same budget line. One is a software subscription and the other stands in for hours you would otherwise employ.
Which one
Choose Medesk if you have more people than appointments, or you are starting out and the free tier lets you run real patients while you decide.
Choose wai when the appointments are outrunning the people. For the same trade against a UK product with a published ladder, read WriteUpp vs wai.
What we are not claiming
We have no free tier of the kind Medesk runs. Ours is a fourteen day trial, which is shorter and narrower, and a clinician who wants to run a small practice at no cost should use Medesk.
We are also not claiming Medesk is expensive. At moderate volume it is among the cheapest options in this comparison.
Frequently asked questions
How much does Medesk cost?
Medesk publishes a Free plan at $0 a month covering 50 appointments, 2 users and 1,000 patient records, and a Pro plan at $16 a month per 50 appointments with unlimited users and unlimited patient records. Read on medesk.net on 8 September 2026. Pro carries a 7 day free trial with no card required.
Does Medesk charge per user?
No. The Pro plan includes unlimited users and unlimited patient records, and charges by appointment volume instead at $16 per 50 appointments a month, read on medesk.net on 8 September 2026. That suits a practice with several administrative and part time staff, because none of those seats carry a licence cost.
Is Medesk cheaper than wai?
At low and moderate appointment volume, yes. wai is priced above the software market, published on our pricing page, because it covers the enquiry, the booking, the note and the letter rather than providing a place for staff to record them. Compare the two only after you have decided whether you are buying software or hours.
What is the catch with volume pricing?
It moves with your busiest month rather than your average one. A clinic running 600 appointments a month buys 12 blocks at $16 each, so growth in appointments is growth in software cost. Model your expected volume in twelve months before comparing headline figures, because the headline is $16 and the bill is not.
Is the Medesk free plan real?
It is a working plan rather than a demo. 50 appointments a month, 2 users and 1,000 patient records at no cost, read on medesk.net on 8 September 2026. That is enough for a new practice to see real patients through the system while deciding what to buy, which very few vendors in this category offer.
