Semble vs wai

By the wai teamSeptember 8, 20266 min read

Summary

Semble is an incumbent in UK private practice and the numbers are its own. Over 16,000 healthcare professionals across 80 specialities use it every day, 10 million patients treated and 21 million appointments facilitated, all stated on semble.io and read on 8 September 2026. A platform carrying that much traffic across that many specialties has been tested in ways a newer product has not.

It also connects to the things a private clinic already runs. Labs, pharmacies and third party scribes, described on the same page and the same date. If your practice is already wired into a set of suppliers, that integration surface is worth money and it is the strongest argument for staying.

One thing Semble does not do is tell you what it costs. On 8 September 2026 there was no pricing page and no figure anywhere on semble.io. Every number you find for Semble comes from somebody else, usually a competitor. wai publishes its price on one page, and the difference in what the two products cover is the reason this comparison is worth reading.

Fifteen minutes and a published price, before anyone asks you for a budget.

What Semble is good at

Coverage and maturity. 80 specialities is a wide surface, and the edge cases in a rheumatology clinic are not the edge cases in a fertility clinic. A platform that has met both has answers a newer product is still writing. Semble states 21 million appointments facilitated on semble.io, read on 8 September 2026, and volume at that scale is its own kind of testing.

Integrations. Labs, pharmacies and scribes connect to it, and for a practice with suppliers already in place the cost of leaving is not the subscription, it is the rewiring. That is a real reason to stay and any comparison that skips it is not worth your time.

Breadth of the record. Semble is a full electronic patient record with e-prescribing, video consultations and a patient portal. It is not a point tool and it does not pretend to be one.

The missing number

We checked semble.io on 8 September 2026 and found no pricing page and no figure. Buyers comparing early say the same thing, and the third party numbers that circulate are published by competitors rather than by Semble.

This is not an argument that Semble is expensive. We do not know what Semble costs and neither does anyone reading this until they book a call. It is an argument about the shape of the purchase. A price you can only get by entering a sales process is a price that arrives after you have spent an hour proving you are worth quoting.

wai publishes on one page. Not because we are the cheaper option, because we are not, but because a clinic owner comparing four products on a Sunday evening should be able to rule us in or out without booking anything. The reasoning is set out in why we publish our prices.

Where the two models part

Semble is the record your practice writes into. It holds the diary, the notes, the prescriptions and the portal, and it makes each of those a better place for a person to work. The person is still the engine.

wai is built the other way round. The enquiry is answered, the appointment is booked, the note is composed from the encounter, the letter is drafted for approval and the coding is done alongside it. What is left is a record, but the record is the residue rather than the product.

The practical test is the front desk. Semble connects to a third party scribe so the note gets faster. Nothing in that reaches the eleven voicemails, the WhatsApp thread and the inbox, and in most private clinics that is where the hours actually go.

What switching actually costs

Data migration is the part every vendor underestimates and every clinic remembers. Jump EHR publishes a £2,500 onboarding and migration fee specifically for practices coming off Semble, on usejump.co.uk and read on 8 September 2026. Whatever you decide, that figure is a fair marker for what moving a live practice off an incumbent record costs in real money.

So the honest advice is to price the move, not just the subscription. If your integrations are deep and your team is fluent, staying is often right. If your constraint is that nobody answers the phone after 6pm, no migration fixes that either, and the question becomes what you add rather than what you replace.

Which one

Choose Semble if you want a mature, broad electronic patient record with established lab and pharmacy connections, and you are prepared to run a sales process to find out what it costs.

Choose wai if the constraint is the work rather than the filing. The consultation, the letters, the coding and the front desk on one record, at a price you can read before anyone calls you. If you want the same comparison against a company that does publish, read Carebit vs wai.

What we are not claiming

We are not claiming Semble is worse software. It is the larger and more widely deployed product in UK private practice and we have no basis to say otherwise.

We are not claiming to match its specialty breadth or its integration list. We cover fewer things and we do more of the work inside them, and a practice that needs the breadth should buy the breadth.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Semble cost?

Semble does not publish a price. We checked semble.io on 8 September 2026 and found no pricing page and no figure anywhere on the site. Any number you see quoted for Semble comes from a third party rather than from Semble, so the only reliable route is a quote direct from them. wai publishes its price on one page.

Is Semble the same as Heydoc?

Semble is the current name of the product formerly called Heydoc. Older reviews and comparison pages still use the previous name, so a search for Heydoc pricing returns material about the same platform. Semble states over 16,000 healthcare professionals across 80 specialities use it daily, on semble.io, read on 8 September 2026.

Does Semble include an AI scribe?

Semble states on semble.io, read on 8 September 2026, that it connects with labs, pharmacies and AI scribes. That is an integration surface rather than a scribe of its own, so the scribe is a separate purchase and a separate contract. wai composes the note from the encounter itself and drafts the letters for approval on the same record.

What does it cost to move off Semble?

Budget for migration separately from the subscription. Jump EHR publishes a £2,500 onboarding and migration fee specifically for practices moving from Semble, on usejump.co.uk and read on 8 September 2026. That is a reasonable marker for the real cost of moving a live practice off an incumbent record, whichever product you move to.

Should I replace Semble with wai?

Not always. If your lab and pharmacy integrations are deep and your team is fluent in the system, the cost of moving is high and the gain may be small. The case for wai is strongest where the constraint is people rather than filing, meaning enquiries unanswered after hours, letters waiting a week and notes written at home.

Which is better for a small private clinic?

Semble is built for the full range from solo practice to large groups and carries the specialty breadth a mixed clinic needs. wai covers the enquiry, the booking, the note, the letter and the coding on one record, so a small clinic can take more work without hiring for it. The deciding question is whether your bottleneck is the record or the hours.
